    A Gift For Mama on Father’s Day…Yep.

    June 24, 2015

This past father’s day, I was gifted with a late birthday gift, from Papa Bear, on Father’s Day. Did I mention that part? Lavish gifts are not something that we give often in our home. Gifts are generally meaningful, sentimental, and occasionally, if we’re lucky, made with someone’s own two hands, so you can imagine my surprise, when I received this unexpected gift, just a few months late.
IMG_1846It’s lovely to be given something that says “I believe in you; I think you can really do this”.

A few photos, untouched, and although there are many improvements to be made, I hope to be able to look back here to see my progress.IMG_1808_2For now, I’ll be experimenting, letting in a little more light, working on my focusing skills, but trying not to steer away from the moment I began to capture, before worrying about how it will look, post process. Ahhh how that could be translated into so many parts of my life…..

    Here comes summer

    June 18, 2015

Sometimes I find it difficult to write; it’s generally during the times when our life is busier than usual. Typically, busyness of the body means that my mind is fairly empty. It’s not until I crawl into bed at night that my thoughts and feelings come rushing in. In order to be successful at calmly pulling off several tasks with my own two hands, sometimes those thoughts become whispers.woodpile

Since the late spring is generally the only sensible time to get the physical work done in our Canadian climate, time is of the essence. We have reached the point when the mosquitoes, although still in existence, are no longer mammoth sized nor swarming us constantly. The weather is warm, but not sweltering, and the humidity is only occasional, at the moment. Now is the time to accomplish the majority of the sweating around here. Having been in our home for two summers already, the realistic goals have been set, and I dare say, we are attacking the list with ferocity. woodstacking

As the dog days of summer approach, I can expect to be in the space a bit more than I have been…poolsideUntil then…summernights

    What We’ve Been Up To

    June 8, 2015

dirtboyworldI’ve been off on a bit of hiatus dealing with some family business, but now that we are home and rolling right along, we’ve been:

…distributing an entire truckload of soil into the new raised beds that this tough chick constructed herself (almost)

    …planting

…harvesting and drying herbs (rose petals, clover, plantain, violets)

…baking our treats rather than buying them

…trying out a new organic grocery service (with delivery!)

…panicking about the fast approaching festival where we will be selling our handcrafted items

…and taking inspiration from several gentle parenting books and actively making changes to take us forward into a happy, more relaxed summer

    more to come!

    nighty night,

    HayMama
